The reason the ball only went 297 is because of the height of the tee and the launch angle of the ball flight. Jason zuback and most long drive hitters tee the ball higher and the launch agle is much higher which keeps the ball in the air long and allows the ball to go farther. Also for every 1 MPH of clubhead speed the ball will travel 2.2 to 2.5 yards. on average but launch angle, club loft atc will play a part.
@XTMRACER17 Could it also be that he was using a softer ball? Also, when this video was taken, perhaps in 2005 or 2006, the ball, shaft and clubhead technology wasn’t quite up to the standard of today. Especially the ball technology has leaped forward the last couple of years. We all know that Tiger can, if he really wants to, generate ridiculous clubhead speed, but he usually generates more backspin with the driver (hitting down on the ball) than most big-hitters, stealing him some distance.

If you wanna know how he hits it like he does? Look at his hips not the head. His hips are way ahead of his arms. Its the body and hips that hit the ball not the arms. The arms are just there to hold the club and nothing else. Do not squeeze the hands because this is what slows the club head club down. Hold them just firm enough to keep the club from coming out of your hands.

Softer ball? All pro’s use a 100 compression ball because it gives them the correct amount of snap. The ball squishes on the club head then retains its shape. This launches the ball off the club head. Softer balls are for slower swing speeds. Sadly most golfers use the expensive balls the pro’s use to give them that edge, but in reality it doesn’t work with their swing speeds. Use the balls of 90 or even 80(for ladies) compression for that edge, if you don’t have a high swing speed.
